Star Dust (1940)

1940 Twentieth Century-Fox Produced by Kenneth MacGowan Directed by Walter Lang Written by Robert Ellis and Helen Logan Photographed by Peverell Marley Music by David Buttolph 85 minutes

Starring Linda Darnell, John Payne, Roland Young, Charlotte Greenwood, William Gargan, Mary Beth Hughes, Donald Meek, Jessie Ralph

Improbable yarn about a beautiful young girl (Linda Darnell) who goes to Hollywood to become a movie star. John Payne is another hopeful, with whom she falls in love, and Mary Beth Hughes the selfish starlet who attempts to sabotage Linda's career by burying her screen test. Roland Young is most enjoyable as a kindly talent scout. Joan appears as one of a number of college kids, on her musical way with singing quaterback Payne to a college football game. If I had a better print I might be able to tell which one. It wasn't a very big part for Miss Brodel.

Hokey but diverting picture that never asks us to take it too seriously. Recommended.
