Starring Greta Garbo, Robert Taylor, Lionel Barrymore, Elizabeth Allan, Jessie Ralph, Henry Daniell, Lenore Ulric, Laura Hope Crews, Rex O'Malley, E.E. Clive
Garbo plays Marguerite Gautier, the consumptive courtesan, who falls in love with an innocent young man (Taylor as Armand Duval). She gives him up in order to shield him from the disrepute that attaches to her name, but dies happily in his arms. A classic Garbo vehicle from the old Dumas warhorse, lushly photographed and well acted, especially by Daniell as the villainous Baron de Varville. Joan Leslie
appears briefly as Armand's little sister, Marie Jeanette, celebrating her First Communion with her family at the Duval farm. It was her film debut. By the bye, the scene depicted in the accompanying photograph (Joan is the little girl with the curls to the left) does not appear in the print of Camille available through MGM/UA Home Video.
Very highly recommended.
